I was asked recently to send my short bio along with a summary of a paper presentation I am proposing to give at the meeting of the Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance in Sinapore in October.  So here it is:

Gary E. Strong is University Librarian at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.  Prior to UCLA, Gary was Director of the Queens Borough Public Library (1994-2003) in New York City and State Librarian of California (1980-1994).  He hold degrees from the University of Idaho and the University of Michigan.  He has held positions on the Board of Governors of IFLA, President of teh Library Administration and Management Association, Chief Officers of State Library Agencies, Western Council of State Librarians, Oregon Library Assocaition, and the Pacific Northwest Library Association.  he created the Center for International Public Lbirarianship at the Queens Library and has consulted and spoken in China, Russia, and through Eastern Europe and Latin America.  During his years as State Librarian, Gary created the California Research Bureau which conducts public policy research for the California state legislature and Executive Branch.  At UCLA he heads on of the top ten research libraries in North America with over 8,000, 000 volumes, thousands of electronic resources, and an active digital library.
