April 22nd, 2011

Starting on Monday, April 25, the central stairwell, which connects from the first floor to the lower level and second floor, will be closed for refinishing.  The closure is expected to last through the end of the week.

During the closure, the lower and upper floors will be accessible via the elevators and the front stairwell.

A-level Flooring Installation Scheduled

April 12th, 2011

The cork flooring on the Research Library A level is scheduled to be installed this week. The prep work should begin on Wednesday, with the cork being installed on Thursday and Friday.

All collections, services, and facilities on the A level will remain accessible throughout, though access routes to them may temporarily change as necessary.

Portico Under Construction

April 4th, 2011

Work has begun on the entrance portico to remove the existing surface and replace it with new tile that will be more attractive as well as more slip- and chip-resistant.  Removal of the existing surface will require some use of jackhammers, but that part of the work will be completed each day by 10 a.m. at the latest.

The project is being done in phases to ensure that one of the front entrances remains accessible throughout.  Currently, that is the left-hand, or west, entrance. Three of the exterior book drops have been temporarily relocated to that side of the portico.

Virtual Fly-through Available

March 11th, 2011

A virtual fly-through of the first-floor renovation design is now available online.

Circulation Desk Open

February 28th, 2011

The new circulation desk is open just to the right of the entrance.  New bookdrops are located on the portico, and there is also an internal bookdrop at the north end of the circulation desk.

Cashier Window Closed Dec. 17

December 16th, 2010

Please be aware that the cashier window in the Research Library will be closed all day on Friday, December 17, due to the renovation.  It will reopen in its new location on Monday, January 3, when the library reopens following the campuswide winter holiday closure.

Current Periodicals Inaccessible Dec. 16-17

December 9th, 2010

The current periodicals shelved on the A level of the Research Library will be inaccessible on Thursday and Friday, December 16-17; flooring in the area is being replaced.  This has been planned for intersession prior to the campus winter holiday closure to affect as few users as possible.

Please plan your library use accordingly.

Entrance Location Change

November 23rd, 2010

The location of the entrance to the Research Library has temporarily changed.  It is now located at the far west side of the entry porch; as you face the building, you’ll see double glass doors on the left side, just beyond the wooden construction barricade.

New entrance doors are being installed behind the barricade.  It is expected that those doors and the new circulation desk will be in operation within the next month.

New Book Drops Installed

November 10th, 2010

New book drops have been installed on the Research Library portico and are available for use, in addition to the ones located on the wall at the northwest corner of the portico and inside adjacent to the circulation desk.  Please note that the following items should not be placed in book drops but should instead be returned to the location from which they were checked out:  reserves, recalled items, interlibrary loans, one-day loans, and unbound periodicals.

Look Past the Barrier — The Library Is Open

September 23rd, 2010

Work has begun on the southeast corner of the first floor, and a wooden barricade has been put up over what were formerly the easternmost entrance doors.

But please look past the barrier; the Research Library is open regular hours throughout the renovations, and the westernmost entrance doors are easily accessible.
