Laptop Lending Opens September 22

The laptop lending service in the Research Library reopened in its new first-floor location on Thursday, September 22. It’s located near the west end of the main east-west corridor. Students, faculty, and staff wanting to check out a laptop must have a valid BruinCard and a UCLA Logon ID.

Reading Room and Coffee Bar Open September 19

Two major sections of the renovated first floor, the reading room and coffee bar, open to the public on Monday, September 19. Located just inside the entrance, the expansive, glass-enclosed reading room contains the print reference collection, study space, and the research assistance desk. Operated by UCLA Restaurants, the coffee bar offers beverages and lights snacks.

The balance of the renovated first-floor spaces will open later this week and next week.

New Cashier Window Hours

The cashier window in the Research Library is now open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Users who want to conduct cash transactions including renting lockers, paying bills, or purchasing fee library cards will need to visit the library during these hours.

Temporary Closure of Central Stairwell

The central stairwell, which connects the first floor to the second floor and the lower level, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, May 16 and 17, for final finishing. The elevators immediately adjacent to the stairwell offer access to all floors, as does the stairwell at the front of the building.

Portico Resurfacing

The replacement of the flooring on the eastern section of the portico is nearly complete, and work will shift to the western section shortly. When that happens, the western section will be roped off, but visitors will be able to enter the building through the eastern doors. Exterior book drops will remain accessible.

Central Stairwell Reopens Monday

There has been a slight delay in reopening the central stairwell, which connects the first floor with the A level and the second floor. It will now reopen on Monday, May 9. In the meantime, visitors can use the stairwell at the front of the building or the elevators to reach all floors.

Stairwell Reopening and Repainting

The central stairwell connecting the A level and first and second floors, which has been closed for resurfacing, is expected to reopen on Wednesday, May 4.

In the meantime, the walls of the front stairwell, which connects all the floors, are being painting. It has not been closed, but visitors are asked to exercise caution when using it because the steps and landings are covered with dropcloths. The painting should be completed by the end of the day on Friday, May 6.

Cashier Window Closure April 27-28

The cashier window will be closed from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, through at least 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, though it’s possible that the closure may extend until Friday morning.

Students who want to pay fines during the closure should do so via SBAR. Further information on fines and how to pay them is available online.
