Nazir Ali Jairazbhoy Colloquium Series in Ethnomusicology
Anne Rasmussen, Associate Professor of Music/Ethnomusicology at the College of William and Mary will speak on “Performing Arts and the Worlds of Islam: Synergy and Disconnect in the Indian Ocean Trade Winds.”
Named after Nazir Ali Jairazbhoy, the founding chair of the Department of Ethnomusicology and Systematic Musicology, this colloquium series provides an opportunity for students, faculty, and visiting lecturers to share information about their research and discuss other issues important in the field.

The Clothesline Project at UCLA is a student group that raises awareness against sexual violence. Every year, the members of Clothesline put on the eponymous protest over three days, this year in Dickson Court and Perloff Court, where they hang up shirts inscribed with personal messages from survivors of rape, sexual assault, and other forms of gender violence to help raise awareness about issues of sexual violence on the UCLA campus and around the world.

This is the opening night and reception of the exhibit, Of Many Colors. The exhibit includes photographs and interviews with 20 families (children, teens, and adults) who have bridged the racial divide through interracial relationships and/or adoption.
In a world where race is considered by many to be a formidable barrier between people, the families in this traveling exhibit have discovered richness and value in diversity. This exhibit of multiracial families has a great deal to teach about racial identity and racism.

Learn English waltzes and set dances from the period 1790-1820 with special guest teacher John Hertz, choreographer for the Friends of English Regency. No dance experience is necessary as there will be instruction throughout the evening; attire can be costume, formal, or semi-formal.
