Research going nowhere? Get Help!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The rain ruins your shoes.
A is not followed by the B.
And the dog eats the directions!

You can come to the reference desk Monday through Thursday from 9am to 8pm; Fridays from 9am to 6pm; and Sundays from 1pm to 6pm. We are closed on Saturdays.

You can also text us during the hours above for help  310.691.6560.

Don’t forget we also have 24/7 help through Ask a Librarian Chat Online anytime!

You can also sign up for your own thirty minute sessions, with a Grad student on Wednesdays from 1 – 1:30 and 1:30 to 2pm. Go to MyUCLA to sign up for these workshops!

The Tricks to Studying Smarter or Smarter Studying

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

From an article in the Daily Bruin on February 5, 2010 and written by Bruin contributor Shoshee Jau, there are “tricks,” that help the student achieve the highest output in their studies:

Students should space out their studying over periods of time. Don’t cram in, but studying, rest, study, rest. Let it bake man.

Study many different sources of information. Besides being presented differently, the varying patterns may allow for lasting retention.

Environment: where a student studies, plays a major role in the association of material and results.

Good luck charms: wow, that penny I have in my shoe really worked!

Sleep, even a ten or twenty minute nap, does wonders to synthesize the information.

Study groups could be good or bad but should be primarily used as a primer or review.

Music, try and keep it calm and without the annoying amount of lyrics.

When going into your test environment, try and keep it calm, nervousness or pressure can cause the student to make tragic mistakes.

Hope you find these tips helpful and Pass that Test!!!
