I’m Meredith Bloom, one of the new Health and Life Sciences Librarians in the Research, Instruction, and Collection Services (RICS) division of the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. I graduated with a Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from UCLA’s Department of Information Studies in spring 2011. During my graduate studies, I worked on a consumer health project at the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Pacific Southwest Region (NN/LM PSR), interned at a hospital library in Burbank, and interned at USC Norris Medical Library. In May, I will complete a Certificate of Advanced Study in Health Sciences Librarianship through the University of Pittsburgh. My interests include consumer health information services, supporting evidence-based practice, and finding new ways to foster effective teaching and learning in the library.
Prior to coming to UCLA I worked as a Pilates instructor and I studied human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. In my spare time I like to take jazz and hip hop dance classes and walk my dog, Jenny. I am currently 8 months pregnant! Although you won’t see me in the library during spring quarter, I look forward to helping with your reference and instruction needs later this year.
