Library Updates Public Computers

Effective Wednesday, February 27, the Library’s public workstations have been updated. Patrons will be able to browse the contents of and save to their USB drives or floppy diskettes. UCLA students, staff and faculty will be able to use CLICC’s Software Shortcut to access many software applications. Available software includes the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Graphical Applications (Photoshop, Rhino), Statistical Applications (SPSS, Stata), and a Social Sciences Application (MapInfo Pro). More applications may be added in the future.

To use these software applications, UCLA students, staff and faculty should select “Edit-Create with MS Office & More” from the workstation’s Start menu. Sign in using your BruinOnline (BOL) logon ID and password. If opening a document from your USB, insert the USB before launching an application. Select the application you would like to use. Please note that it will take a few moments for the application to load. You can easily save your work to a USB key, floppy diskette or the local T drive. Log off when you are finished. For assistance, there is a help guide on the Start menu with answers to common questions. You may also contact CLICC by email at feedback@clicc.ucla.edu or by phone at 310.206.0271.

If you would like to try CLICC’s Software Shortcut from your staff or home computer, the address is http://shortcut.clicc.ucla.edu. Off-campus users would need to connect via the campus virtual private network (VPN).
