Continue reading this post to learn more about import filters, and how to download and install import filters.
The import filter is used when you import citations from a database into Endnote; the filter ensures that the bibliographic information is in the correct field. Import filters are free to download. You can install these filters even if you do not have administrative rights on a computer. You need to install these filters if you are using the software version of Endnote (the web version of Endnote automatically updates its own filters).
Go to the Endnote Import Filter Download Page to locate and download filters for these databases. Some databases are offered by more than one publishing company– select the publisher that UCLA has contracted with to receive this information. You can find out what publisher UCLA uses for specific databases by looking for a logo in the database itself, or by asking library staff. In the list of databases above, the publisher’s name is in parentheses.
Once you have downloaded a new filter, save the file to your Endnote program directory; this will replace the previous import filter file. For PC users, the Endnote program directory can usually be found in C:\Program Files\Endnote\Filters. For Mac users, it is usually Harddrive:Applications:Endnote:Filters.
Endnote frequently updates import filters, connection files, and output styles. Visit the Endnote home page to keep track of updates and download new files when available.
