147 MEMORIA: LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE DIRTY WAR

Opening Reception: Monday, October 25, 5 PM
Exhibition Dates: Tuesday, October 26 and Wednesday October 27.
11 am to 3 pm

During the opening there will be a talk in Spanish given by the organizers.

Videla Godoy was imprisoned and tortured during the Pinochet dictatorship, and later on was kidnapped by Coordination Federal, an Argentinean Police force. After two weeks of torture and interrogation by the Chilean Secret Service, as part of the Plan Condor, he was moved to cell number 147 in the prison of Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires, where many other political prisoners were held.

Book Art Installation

The new Walnut Creek Public Library lobby features an installation by UCLA Design|Media Arts professor Christian Moeller’s. “Shhh…Portrait in 12 Volumes of Gray,” is composed of 3,960 books and displays the image of a woman’s face as she makes a “shhh” signal.

Design|Media Arts Professor Rebeca Méndez has been awarded The Arctic Circle 2010 Art Residency

Rebeca Mendez, professor in the Department of Design|Media Arts, has been awarded an art residency from the Arctic Circle to join an expedition to the High Arctic Oct. 7-24, 2010. A group of 18 artists, scientists, architects and educators will work collaboratively aboard an ice-class vessel in Svalbard, an international territory near the North Pole.

Covering Sources of Biographical Information, this guide includes links to some 250 freely accessible websites containing biographical data on designers, architects, craftspeople, painters and sculptors. These are among the sources they use to compile profiles for Design ProFILES. The guide will be updated regularly .
